ABOUT AMANDA RISING

Learning and teaching are not only important, but defining aspects in the life of Amanda Rising. Since pursuing a career in education, her unique approach has been a shining example for other professionals. With a true dedication to sharing knowledge, she's educated and inspired countless students inside and outside of the classroom. Now, she seeks to pursue a career beyond the classroom; she wants to educate the school community through the library, and beyond.

LIBRARY VISION STATEMENT

Goals:

The library will provide resources and information that will successfully fulfill the task of helping students study and learn for testing purposes as well as in becoming citizens of the community that are self-sufficient contributors. Also, the library and librarian will provide supplemental teaching and lessons to help teachers with standards that may not be covered thoroughly due to time constraints. I will add expertise to help with students’ and teachers’ sense of well-being.

Objectives:

I wish to successfully manage any type of school library while exceeding the expectations of the job of the school librarian. I plan to create an environment of peace and cooperation that can be relied upon each day. I will create a best-practice library that equips students and staff for their curriculum and studies. And, to the best of my ability, I will make the library a place where each member of the school community wishes to visit as often as possible.

Philosophy:

The mission of the school library is to ready each student for further education and life through acquisition of knowledge by means of collaboration with all school community members. The library has the responsibility of enhancing learning and engagement of all students through promotion of resources and information, and any library I operate will respect that responsibility to the best of its ability.

The library program directly interfaces with the mission and philosophy of the school in which it is housed through diversity of materials to appeal and respond to the entire population of the school, as well as addressing the rigorous activities in academics throughout the building. Students are faced with tremendous demands as they grow into citizens of the community, and the school library will be fully prepared to address the challenges faced through research and resources.

Background factors:

Looking back, I should have known from the beginning that I was meant to be a librarian! I was a frequent visitor of my school libraries throughout my school career. I also traveled to public libraries in my communities, first as a child with my mother, and then as a teenager and adult for resources and a good story. Now, as a mother, one of my most important goals is to teach my daughter the value and joy of being a part of the library community. We are the family that leaves the library with more books than we can carry! As a long time reader and story lover, I feel that I am equipped to properly organize and operate a school library. And I am ready to create an environment that prepares students for what is to come!
